Race 1 (48) RTC CHRISTMAS CHARITY CUP 1400M

Trainer S.P.A. Raju was given permission to have his charge KRABI led to the Starting Gates without the rider.

SALSA DANCER (S.D. Mahesh) drawn 3 was slowly out and lost about 5 lengths. Trainer S.P.A. Raju was asked to give the filly Gate Practice.

Race 2 (49) THE GERMAN EMBASSY ADVENT CUP 1400M

Jockey M. Rupa the rider of HUNHAR was unseated passing the 800-meter marker. She reported that her mount HUNHAR shied away from the gap at the 800-meter marker and tried to jump across the same. This unbalanced the gelding completely as he stumbled and resulted in Jockey Rupa being thrown off.

Jockey Rupa was examined by the Medical Officer who pronounced her fit to fulfil her riding engagements and she herself when interviewed by the Stipendiary Stewards stated that she was perfectly all right and was fit and happy to continue.

CRIMSON QUEST Jockey R. Selvaraj 57.5 Kgs. Carried an overweight of 1.5Kgs. Weight declared 59Kgs.

Race 3 (50) SPORTS MINISTRY CHALLENGE CUP 1600M

ARABIAN GOLD (N. Rupa) drawn 1 was slow into stride and lost about 6 lengths. Trainer S.P.A. Raju was asked to take remedial measures.

ICELANDIC (S. Suganthan) drawn 2 veered in sharply after the jump out and as a result lost a lot of ground. Trainer S. Madialagan was asked to give the horse Gate Practice.

Trainer S. Madialagan and jockey A. Vishwanath were questioned as regards the running and riding of CELESTIAL FIRE who was observed to be positioned well off the pace in the early stages.

After hearing the explanations tendered by both they were informed that the same had been noted. Trainer S. Madialagan was asked to be more specific in his instructions to his rider in future. Jockey Vishwanath was asked to position his mount in a more advantageous position in future.

ICELANDIC Jockey S. Suganthan 53 Kgs. Carried an overweight of 3Kgs. Weight declared 56Kgs.

Race 4 (51) THE RTC CHRISTMAS GOLD CUP 1800M

The start of the race was delayed by over ten minutes as CHARLEMAGNE (A. Vishwanath) and SILVER STREAK (N. Rupa) were extremely troublesome and fractious to be stalled. Their respective trainers S. Madialagan and S.P.A. Raju were told to take corrective measures.

Charlemagne (A. Vishwanath) returned lame on his left hind after the race. Trainer S. Madialagan was told to get him passed fit by the Veterinary Officer before accepting with him again.

Race 5 (52) NUWARA ELIYA PLANTATION TROPHY

The start of the race was delayed by about 20 minutes.

ABSOLUTE RED ( N. Rupa) was very fractious before ultimately being stalled. Trainer Jayantha Wijesinghe has been told to take remedial measures.

CHARMING GREY (L. Dayalan) drawn 2 was slowly off and lost a distance at the start. In the course of the race showed a marked tendency to veer out. Trainer S.P.A Raju has been told to rectify the same.

Race 6 (53) NUWARA ELIYA WINTER CUP ( No Whips)

The start of the Race was delayed by 20 minutes.

AIRBORNE II was late coming into the Paddock where he was extremely fractious. He was taken into the Saddling Enclosure and the jockey had to mount him inside.

Prior to the Start and before coming under Starters Orders AIRBORNE II dropped the rider and bolted. He was subsequently withdrawn. Trainer S. Sreedharan was severely reprimanded and told that he had to look into the matter and improve the behavior of AIRBORNE II before accepting with him again.

Race 7 (54) THE PONY WELFARE CUP( No Whips)

The start of the Race was delayed by 10 minutes.

The Start of the race we delayed by about 8 minute as SALSA DANCER(L Dayalan) who was being led to the Start was late in getting there

SNOW QUEEN (S. Vishwanath) jumped a little awkwardly at the start did not appear to be inclined to raise a gallop in the initial stagers

SALSA DANCER was slow into stride.

SANDSTORM was permitted to be withdrawn on Veterinary grounds.

There was no pace whatsoever in the initial stages of the race and it only picked up after the two horses passed the 800 metre marker.

On rounding the turn, GAZAKI 9Irvan Singh) shifted out and pushed out ICELANDI (S, Suganthan) who was on his outside. After the pair straightened up ICELANDIC (S.Suganthan) lugged in under the whip and inconvenienced GAZAKI (Irvan Singh) on his inside.

Both jockeys were called in and severely cautioned and advised to exercise better control of their mounts in the future.

COLLORATO (SD MAHESH) drawn 4 reared up and fly jumped out of the gates. Thereby loosing a distance at start.

TRAINER S.P.A. RAJU WAS ASKED TO GIVE THE GELDING GATE PRACTICE AND TAKE CORRECTIVE MEASURES.

The winner TORPEDO ( A. VISHWANATH) was sporting bandages on his hind legs. In the last 300 mts. Of the race, the bandage on the right hind leg came loose and opened up. Trainer S.V.MADIALAGAN was severely reprimanded and told that a similar incident in future would be treated severely.

CHARMING GREY (S.D.Mahesh) Drawn 4. Veered out as the gates opened and lost ground. Jockey reported the he showed the tendency to run out throughout the race. Trainer S.P.A.Raju was asked to take remedial measures.

The Winner was observed to cut an erratic course in the straight. Jockey S.SUGANTHAN was severely reprimanded and fined a sum of rupees Two Thousand for not excercising proper control over his mount.

OBJECTION

An objection was lodged against the winner ABSOLUTE RED by the Trainer 3rd placed horse namely GLITTERING, on grounds furnished by him.

The Stipendiary Stewards after viewing the video footage and interviewing the jockeys and the trainer, unanimously decided to overrule the objection.

The start of the race was delayed by about SIX Minutes.

Jockey L.Dayalan rider of ALCAZABA was severely reprimanded for standing up the in the stirrups and exulting before passing the winning post.

SPEARHEAD (M.MOHANRAJ) was observed to race wide throughout the race.

HORSE NO.5 CHUL BUL PANDY carried an overweight of 1.5Kgs.

A dead heat was declared for first place between horse No. 1 CITY SHOT and Horse no.2 REABATH.

It was observed that in a no whip race jockey S.DASARADHAN used his reins to whip his mount a number of times.

OBJECTION

The trainer of horse No.2 REBATH who dead heated for the first place with Horse No.1 CITY SHOT lodged an objection against the rider of Horse No.1 CITY SHOT, on the grounds that he had gained unfair advantage by using his reins like a whip in a NO WHIP RACE, had he not done so the trainer felt that his ward REABATH would have been the winner.

The Stipendiary Stewards after interviewing the jockeys and the trainer and viewing the video footage of the race were unanimous to in their verdict to uphold the objection and the revised order of the placing is as mentioned below.

COSMOPOLITAN (IND) (M Mohanraj) race wide for the entire journey. Mohnaraj was shown the video of the race then censured and informed that action will be taken against him in he rides in a similar manner.

Specimens were taken from the winner DON HASA. Jockey Ashok Kumar replaced S Punitharaj, who was unable to ride at the allotted weight, on TRIANGULAR (IND).

The gates open prematurely causing the two horses stalled STOCKWELL and CRIMSON QUEST (IND) to jump out. CRIMSON QUEST (IND) was quickly restrained, However STOCKWELL dislodged jockey C Umesh and galloped back to his stable. After being returned to the start STOCKWELL was found to be lame in the left fore leg and was withdrawn at 11-07am. Following an inquiry into this incident it was established that being new gates with a different starting mechanism an attendant thought that the manual lever was not in the correct position, by him adjusting the lever the gates opened.

AUGUSTUS (IND) (C Umesh) was slow to move when the gates were released. WIND STREAM (Md Farahan Alam) raced wide for the major part of the event.

ARRABIAN GOLD (IND) (S D Mahesh) dwelt when the gates were released losing considerable ground. CAMORRA (IND) (S Suganthan) was slowly away. Near the 550 VIGOROUS (IND) (A Vishwanath) steadied from the heels of BEAUTIFUL LANKAN (Ashok Kumar). Passing the 300m CAMORRA (IND) (S Suganthan) shifted in under pressure causing SANDSTORM (IND) (Kishore Kadam) to check. Following an enquiry Jockey S Suganthan was fined LKR 2,000 and told keep his mounts straighter in future. SANDSTORM (IND) shifted out under pressure in the straight. CAMORRA (IND) races wide in the middle section of the race.

Near the 500 LEGASI (S Punitharaj) broke down in the left fore leg. The mare was attendant to by the Dr Jeyentrabalaji Thangaraj and taken to the Trainers stables. Jockey M Ishan (QUEEN OF THE HILL) lost both iron near the 400m and rode without them for the remainder of the event.

Jockey Dhinesh was informed not to accept rides where he is unable to make the handicap weight or action will be taken against him. Shortly after the start JOANNA (S D Mahesh) eased from ROYAL OAK (K Sanjeevan). Near the 1000 jockey S Suganthan (CRIMSON QUEST) pulled his goggles down.

Specimens were taken from the winner STOCKWELL which delayed the start 4 minutes being difficult to load into the barriers. CAPTIVE HEART (Kishore Kadam) was slow to move at the start. When the gates opened COSMOPOLITAN (Dhinesh) jumped awkwardly inwards bumping ADMIRAL (Suganthan), STORMY PETREL (S D Mahesh) also jumped in and tightened the aforementioned horses. When jockey Mahesh immediately attempted to straighten his mount the mare over reacted shifting in further. No blame could to attached to any rider. ADMIRAL raced wide making the 1100m turn. STORMY PETREL laid in under pressure in the straight.

Race 4 (32) Usha Stud Farm

Jockey Dhinesh was unable to ride at the allotted weight on ARRABIAN GOLD and was replaced by N S Parmar. Jockey S Suganthan was unable to ride at the allotted weight on SANDSTORM and was replaced by M Mohanraj. Jockey L Logandran was unable to ride at the allotted weight on SUSSEX DOWNS and was replaced by K.Sanjeevan. Jockeys Dhinesh, S Suganthan and L Logandran were informed not to accept rides where he is unable to make the handicap weight or action will be taken against him. As all three horses were trained by S P A Raju who was told to confirm that a rider can make the handicap weight before declaring same in future. Jockey S D Mahesh was censured for attempting to weigh out without his packing for the saddle. He was told that a repetition would lead to severe action being taken against him. GAZAKI was slow away at the start. MR MAJESTIC (Kishore Kadam) was slow to move at the start then raced wide making the 1100m turn.

CHARLATAN (Irvan Singh) was inspected by the club veterinarian on the morning of the race and passed fit to start. CAMORRA (S Selvaratnam) was inspected by the club veterinarian at the start and passed fit to race.At the start CAMORRA was slowly away. After travelling about 100m jockey Suganthan (SUN KINGDOM) pulled his goggles down. Near the 700m CHARLATAN fell, an inquiry is being held into this incident. Jockey Irvan Singh was conveyed to hospital for x rays. CHARLATAN sustained an injury to his left shoulder, was taken to an outer section of the track and then conveyed to the stables for further treatment and observation. Jockey Dhinesh (ROSWALD) pleaded guilty to a charge under 166(a) of excessive use of the whip on his mount and was fined SLRs 2,000.

Race 6 (34) Sunday Times Challenge Cup

At the start SCOOBYDOO (Sumith Kumar) stood flat footed losing considerable ground. An objection was lodged by Dhinesh, rider of the third placegetter AIRBORNE II against LEGASI (M Mohanraj) alleging interference near the 600m. After taking evidence, viewing the race film and from their own observations then taking into the consideration the margin between the two horses the objection was overruled. It was established that LEGASI shifted in slightly near the 600 causing AIRBORNE II to be eased.

Specimens were taken from the winner STOCK WELL. The start of this race was delayed 5 minutes due to STOCK WELL and STORMY PETREL being difficult to load into the gates. Near the 750m DON HASA (A. Vishwanath) checked when CHRISTMAS CAKE (M. Mohanraj) shifted inwards. Jockey Mohanraj was shown the film of the incident and severely reprimanded, he was informed that a repetition would lead to a suspension.

STORMY PETREL ( S.Suganthan) ran wide making to 1100m turn. Trainer S.D. Lalith was fine SLRs 1,000 for presenting STOCK WELL in the enclosure with out a nose roll which was applied at the barriers.

AUGUSTUS (N.S.Parmar) was slow to move at the start. The clubs veterinarian reported that ATLANTUS (A.Vishwanath) pulled up lame in the left fore leg. Trainer Sridher Selvaratnam was informed to have the gelding inspected by an official before racing again. 

Race 4 (26) Daily Mirror Challenge Cup

Specimens were taken from the winner ICELANDIC. ICE MINT was withdrawn at 9-55am by order of the Stewards on veterinary advice when the gelding was lame in the left foreleg. Trainer S D Lalith was informed to have ICE MINT inspected by an official before starting him again. FESTIVAL CITY (L.Ravi Kumar) stood in the gates and took no part in the race. Trainer S.V.Madialagan was informed that the stallion would have to completed two satisfactory gate practices before starting again. On jumping away ICELANDIC (S.Suganthan) shifted inward tightening SANDSTORM (S.D.Mahesh) onto GAZAKI (Irvan Singh). Even though Jockey S. Suganthan did attempt to straighten his mount he was fined SLRs 2,000 for not attempting to do so quicker. Near the 150m INDIAN EPIC (Kishore Kadam) shifted out under pressure and bumped ICELANDIC. Jockey Kishore Kadam was censured and told to keep his mount straighter in future.

Race 5 (27) St. Clair’s Challenge Cup

He said his mount whipped around at the start and he already fallen off prior to the start so he took his feet from the irons. Jockey Ashok Kumar failed to weigh in after finishing 4th on SCOOBYDOO, he was fined SLRs 1,000 under RTC rule of racing 178(b).

At the start ROMANTIC CHARMER (K.Langeswaran) was slowly away. Near the 500 and again approaching the 200m PERFECT (S. Selvaratnam) shifted in tightening DON HASA (A.Vishwanath). Jockey Selvaratnam was told to exercise greater care in future. Jockey S. Selvaratnam was fine SLRs1,000 for striking PERFECT forward of the saddle with his whip. Following an inquiry jockey L Ravi Kumar, rider of CALADIUM, was found guilty to a charge under RTC rule of racing 161(ii) with an unsatisfactory ride in that he continually restrained his mount throughout the race. His permit to ride was suspended for the 30th April, 2016.He was further advised that if he rides in such a manner again the penalty would be more severe. CALADIUM was presented in the enclosure with Blinkers on which was not declared. Trainer S.V.Madialagan was advised to ensure that his runners race in the equipment he declares or action will be taken against him.

At the start CARBRESE(K.Sanjeevan) was slow away. LEGASI (S. Dasaradan) missed that start losing many lengths, then near the 600 metres whilst riding the horse along the reins flipped over the the left side. Whilst attempting to correct the reins the saddle shifted to back and sideways which placed jockey Dasaradan at a disadvantage for the remained of the race. Shortly after the start jockey S.Suganthan (AIRBORNE II) lost his right stirrup and rode without irons for the race.

Jockey Sumith Kumar who was having his first ride under RTC Rules of Racing was reprimanded and told to keep his mounts straighter. He was further severely cautioned for his excessive use of the whip on ROYAL OAK and told that a repetition would lead to action being taken against him. Making the home turn JOANNA (Dhinesh) shifted out forcing ROYAL OAK wider on the track. Jockey Dhinesh was told to keep his mount straighter. CRIMSON QUEST lost her left hind plate during the race.

THE CARDINAL (S. Suganathan) refused to enter the starting gates and was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 11-37am. Trainer S.V. Madialagan was informed to rectify this trait in the stallion before starting him again. On jumping away COSMOPOLITAN (Dhinesh) brushed the outside gate. At the 700m CHRISTMAS CAKE (M. Mohanraj) eased when STOCK WELL (Ashok Kumar) shifted inwards. Near the 300m STOCK WELL clipped the heels of CHRISTMAS CAKE and dipped. CAPTIVE HEART (S.D.Mahesh) raced wide making the home turn. Following an inquiry jockey S.D. Mahesh (CAPTIVE HEART) pleaded guilty to a charge under 166(a) of excessive use of the whip on his mount and was fined SLRs 2,000. Jockey Mahesh had been warned for excessive use of the whip on 20th March, 2016. Trainer S.D Lalith was reprimanded for racing STOCK WELL in woolen cheekers without permission.

Trainer Sridher Selvaratnam was informed to have the gelding passed before accepting with it again. SUN KINGDOM (A. Vishwanath) and MR MAJESTIC (Dhinesh) were slow to move when the gates were released. MR MAJESTIC raced wide for the major part of the journey. Following an inquiry jockey S.D. Mahesh (ALCAZABA) pleaded guilty to a charge under 166(a) of excessive use of the whip on his mount and was fined SLRs 4,000. Following its poor performance the clubs Veterinarian inspected CAMORRA (L.Ravi Kumar) post race but no abnormality was detected.

Trainer Lalith was informed that should he present a horse to race in equipment other than which is declared action would be taken against him. The clubs Veterinarian reported that STORM AHEAD pulled lame in the right fore leg. Trainer S.D. Lalith was informed to have the gelding passed before starting it again. Following an inquiry jockey S.D. Mahesh (SANDSTORM) pleaded guilty to a charge under 166(a) of excessive use of the whip on his mount and was fined SLRs 8,000. He was further informed that should he appear before the Stewards again on a whip offence he would not be permitted to carry a whip until 1st of January, 2017.

Jockey S.D.Mahesh accidentally dropped his whip near the 80m. The Veterinarian reported that SPARK OF GOLD (S.Suganthan) had bled during the race. Trainer S.V.Madialagan was informed that the gelding can not race for 4 weeks.

Race 7 (7) Diyatalana Memorial Trophy (1st Division)

Jockey L.Dayalan, rider of REABATH, placed second lodged an objection against ARUNDATHI (M.Ishan) placed first alleging interference near the 100m. After hearing the evidence from both riders and from their own observations the objection was overruled. It was established that ARUNDATHI had shifted in near the 100m causing REABATH to be eased, however in the opinion of the Stewards this did not effect the result of the race. Jockey M.Ishan was told to exercise greater care in future.
