Race 1 (1) The Blackpool Hotel Cup Class 3 Handicap 1400M of SLRs 255,000 plus a trophy
At the Start ARRABIAN GOLD (IND) (M.Mohnaraj) was a little slow to move. GLITTERING (IND) (S D Mahesh) and CAPTAIN HADDOCK (IND) brushed making the home turn.
Race 2 (2) Daily FT Cup Class 4 Handicap 1070M of SLRs 187,500 plus a trophy
ABSOLUTE RED (IND) (S D Mahesh) refused to enter the barriers and was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 11-12am. Trainer W Jayantha was informed that the gelding must compete in a satisfactory Mock Race before starting again. This delayed the start 8 minutes. SUPREME (IND) (L Dayalan) was slow to move when the gates were released losing ground. The saddle on DON HASA Saddam Hussain slipped to the right side on jumping away, this placed the rider at a disadvantage in riding his mount. Trainer S Sridher was informed to ensure that the saddles of his runners do not move or action will be taken against him.
Race 3 (3) Ranaviru Challenge Cup Class 2 Handicap 1400M of SLRs 335,000 plus a trophy
Jockey A Vishwanath (CELESTIAL FIRE) was censured for gesticulating prior to the winning post. The right tree in the saddle of S Suganathan (ICELANDIC) (IND) broke giving him a harmless fall after the winning post. The saddle which was recently purchased was inspected. The clubs Veterinarian reported that WHATSUP (IND) (Ashok Kumar) pulled up lame in the right fore. Trainer S V Madialagan was instructed to produce a veterinary certificate of soundness before starting again.
Race 4 (4) Independence Race Day Cup Class 1 Handicap 1400M of SLRs 490,000 plus trophy
SANTOS (IND) was withdrawn at 10-15am by order of the Stewards acting on Veterinary advice when found to be lame in the right fore. Trainer S P A Raju was told to produce a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to starting SANTOS (IND) again. CHARLEMAGNE (IND) (A Viswanath) was slow to move when the gates were released. The saddle of CHARLEMAGNE (IND) slipped to the left side near the 800M.
Trainer S V Madialagan was informed to ensure that the saddles of his runners do not move or action will be taken against him. Jockey L Dayalan (ALCAZABA (IND)) was fined SLR 1,000 for gesticulating prior to the winning post.
Race 5 (5) The Sunday Times Cup Class 5 Handicap 1070M of SLRs 145,000 plus a trophy
At the start COSMOPLOITAN (K Sanjeevan) jumped awkwardly at the start losing ground. ROYAL OAK (S Dasadaran) was slow to move at the start losing ground. SNOW QUEEN (IND) (Ashok Kumar) whipped around at the start and took little part in the race. Trainer S V Madialagan was informed that SNOW QUEEN (IND) must complete in two satisfactory gate practices prior to starting again.
Race 6 (6) Freedom Cup ½ Bred Handicap 1000M of SLRs 97,500 plus a trophy
An enquiry was held into the start of this race. Evidence was taken from Mr N Punna, the Starter, Mr S Marshall, Stewards and Dr Balaji who were at the start and all riders. It was established that Ashok Kumar (RED RUM), K Sanjeevan (POWER GIRL) and
M Ishan (FANCY FACE) took an early jump on the start. These three riders were each fine SLR 2,500 for failing to obey the directions of the start.
Race 7 (7) British Ceylon Cup 3/4 bred Thoroughbred Handicap 1000M of SLRs 97,500 plus a trophy
This race was delayed 13 minutes due to the enquiry in the previous race.
