S. SELVARATHNAM

Trainer

      Sridher Selvarathnam, third generation in the horsing race field was born on the 17th of November 1988 in Nuwara Eliya. His father’s name is S. Selvarathnam and mother Veronica Victorine Ford. Sridhers grandfather started his career as a jockey in 1950 and his father in 1975 who was a champion jockey winning 6 races in one day making it an unforgettable record of his career. There were 6 racecourses in Sri Lanka back in the day, and Sridhers grandfather served at all 6, including a time when Queen Elizabeth visited the nation. 

 

Sridher became an owner at the age of seven and started his local breed horse racing while studying. In 2000, he started his career as a trainer and won his first cup in 2006 with “Hi Gorgeous.” Later he went on winning many races and received tile of best trainer. In the year 2011, Sridher won his first Queen’s Cup with his winning horse “Saddle Point.” In 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014, he won the Governor’s Cup and just last season he claimed the Queens Cup again. He takes pride in being one of the leading horse trainers in the field.
